Thursday night Oct. 14 from 8 to closing at Michaels Bar at Washington Street and Franklin Street, there will be a get-together for David Carnevale who is running for State Senator for Somerville, Medford and Winchester. David is a young self employed candidate who is a resident of Medford; he is running against the Progressive’s candidate: Pat Jahlen. Come and meet David and meet a lot of your friends there as well, the get togher was started by a couple of people and it has gone wild with people wanting to be there. Help give David a sendoff to victory on November 2.

Last weekend the Progressive incumbent for state representative, Carl, (yes he also has an opponent) carefully escorted the Governor around his district, and visited some businesses. We know of one business they went into where they were greeted politely by a crowd of folks who aren’t supporting incumbents this year.

This Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. is the Fall Open House for the Masonic Lodge located at 125 Highland (rear). King Solomon’s Lodge is one of the oldest lodges in North America, also the same lodge that built and owned the Bunker Hill Monument. Come and visit, and see some of the lodges’ original Paul Revere jewels and Tabor Lights and original documents of the lodge dating back to mid 1700’s. Ask your questions and get answers, KSL lodge has over 300 members here in Somerville and is a charitable organization. The head of the Lodge is Jose M. Jorge, come meet him and his officers. Light refreshments will be served.

The city’s Health Fair will be held on October 20 from 10 to 2p.m. at 167 Holland Street. Also the Somerville Lions own Eye mobile will be there for eye exams, hearing exams and blood pressure will be checked free of charge. The pharmacist will be there to check your medications and there will be a place to drop off all your old outdated prescriptions and many other features. A light lunch will be served. Anyone notice that our health care costs here in Massachusetts have increased substantially in particular the self-employed individuals? We know someone that hasn’t even been to a doctor in over two years who recently got notified her insurance was being increased an extra $121 a month more.

Too bad about the under handed treatment of SHS girls basketball Coach Brian Harris. His replacement was mentioned in the paper last week, some of us here know about the great job that Coach Harris has done with the girls basketball program, we wish him well and salute a job well done.

Our sincere condolences to the Lorraine Quigley Hobert family for their recent loss, Lorraine is the daughter of John and Ronaine Quigley of Howe Street, she passed away recently from cancer, we were very sad to hear it and we send our deepest sympathies. Lorraine will be missed.
