Monsoons, India
The unexpected storm
arrived
with such quiet
grace
it settled over the Western Ghats
like
a warm blanket.
Lush green
punctuated only by
long
waterfalls nourishing
the Earth with life.
Air replete of
robust scents so strong
I close my eyes and
inhale the sweetness of
wet grass,
damp dirt,
clay and fog.
Drops cling to
each leaf and inch of bark.
Rivers of mud
carve
tributaries in fields
where children play and dance
under the showers.
This is where it lies.
The sweet relief that all will be washed anew.
— Renuka Raghavan
