Sunday afternoon  hundreds of people flocked to Columbia Street to celebrate Nissenbaum’s Used Auto Parts’ 100th anniversary. Folks of all ages came to enjoy good food and music and got a chance to see almost 50 Antique cars. Kids had fun playing in the bouncy house and taking pictures with “OT” the friendly giant bird-monster.

Nissenbaum’s was founded in 1910 and is now run by the 4th   and 5th generation. Joe and his brother Allen along with Joe’s son Neil, now operate the huge recycled auto parts empire that has been a staple in our community for a century. With help from their army of employees, the auto parts giant showed the city how to throw a party in style. Guests were given tours of the facilities and were shown an exciting demonstration of the “Car crusher”.  Special guests included Ray and Tom Magliozzi also known as Click and Clack from NPR’s show “Car Talk”.

The brisk autumn air served as a fitting background for lots of cool cars, great food and happy people. Nissenbaum’s has given us 100 years of quality recycled auto parts, saving the planet and saving people money. Since the celebration was such a success, plans are in the works for Nissenbaum’s 200th anniversary!
