Mudflat Pottery School to Host Military Parents and their Children for a Day with Clay

September is back to school month for families, meaning that quality parent/child time can be hard to come by. Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program, is teaming up with Mudflat Pottery School in Somerville, MA, to bring local military parents and their children together for a few hours of free, educational fun with clay.

This event is part of Home Base’s Adventure Series, a series of free events throughout the year aimed at strengthening Military Family bonds before, during and after deployment. Veterans and their Families may explore a new activity, connect with other military families, and learn more about the clinical services, education, and research offered by Home Base.

For this Saturday, September 30, military parents are invited to bring their child (or up to two children) to Mudflat for a hands-on clay workshop.  The opportunity to meet and interact with other local military families is part of what makes the Adventure Series events so special – and so popular – with those who have served.

Thanks to Home Base’s ongoing partnership with Mudflat, there will be several events of this nature over the course of the next several months. Each event will have a different theme: parent/child, couples, and women’s night. In addition, Mudflat has been working with patients enrolled in Home Base’s Intensive Clinical Program (ICP), which brings in Veterans from across the country for two-weeks of therapy for Post -Traumatic Stress (PTS) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) as a result of combat.

“As part of Mudflat’s longstanding commitment to providing clay engagement to all, we are delighted to work with Home Base and expand our programming to veterans and their families,” explains Lynn Gervens, Mudflat’s Executive Director.

“The ongoing partnership with Mudflat Pottery School is a true asset to Home Base and the families it serves,” says Jacque Francona, a Family Outreach Coordinator at Home Base.
