For Molly
We skipped high school just once
when Borges spoke at First Church
we biked the five quiet blocks
leaving English class behind
Mr. Randall’s “who’s that?”
made us feel even more smug
we squeezed into the back
he was tiny behind a table
bald head muttering at
a microphone that didn’t work
now Mr. Randall’s dead too
and we’re on opposite coasts
