This Sunday, May 9, at Anthony's in Malden is the
26th Annual Gene Brune scholarship breakfast 9 a.m. to 11a.m. Suggested donation
is $20 per person, children under 8 no charge. This is a fantastic yearly event
that is very popular here with all of Gene's friends. A place to go and meet and
greet new and old friends every year, not to mention a great buffet
breakfast.

With an MWRA water boil order in place and over 2 million Bay State residents
without drinkable water, Sunday's Somerville Lion's Club's Annual Charity
Breakfast was a complete success with over two hundred attendees despite a few
hurdles. When Dunkin Donuts, an annual sponsor couldn't provide the coffee
because of the water ban, that's when Bret Henry of the Mount Vernon in
Somerville sprang into action at the last minute to save the day!Henry's
restaurant, a major Lion's Club supporter boiled hundreds of gallons of bottled
spring water at the Somerville restaurant to make the coffee for the local
charity event and delivered the fresh hot brew throughout the day to their front
door.

Representative Denise Provost brings the House
Revenue Committee "Listening Tour" to Somerville on Monday, May 10, with a
hearing on tax policy and the challenges of local government from 7 to 9 p.m. at
City Hall Alderman Chambers. This is your opportunity to ask questions on the
tax policy in Massachusetts. Both Rep. Denise Provost and the House Chairman of
Revenue Committee Rep. Jay R. Kaufman, D-Lexington, will facilitate audience
discussion and questions following a brief overview of how Massachusetts tax
policy is structured. Let's hope none of those Tea Party members find out about
this.

This past week City Hall spokeswoman Jackie
Rossetti announced through robocalls to the whole city, that there was a water
emergency, letting people know to boil all tap water before using. Everything
was fine until she added at the end that before consuming the boiled water to
let it cool down. What is wrong with people, have we all become so used to
living in a nanny state that City Hall has to tell us to let boiled water cool
before consumption? It's a water emergency people, not the end of the world.

We hear popular local restaurateur Ken
Kelley is getting married on May 15. We're told Ken has an interesting guest
list both the Gays and Curtatone's are invited, so one wonders if it's an open
bar or not? If its is then a certain ex-mayor's husband just might be close to
the bar, could be interesting event. We will have a few Newstalkers present to
report.

Happy Mother's Day this Sunday to all the
Mothers out there that selflessly gave love, guidance and comfort and so much
more to us all. As we go through life with many friends and acquaintances we
have but one Mother. May all Mothers enjoy the day and the love of their
families.

Appears that the so called "House
that Jack Built" in East Cambridge, the county court house, is up for sale. The
court house was a state of the art building in 1971 with a one of a kind county
jail on the top floors of the building. The building had some major asbestos
problems and for the last two years the superior court has been located in
Woburn and the Cambridge district court in Medford. In its day it was a
political nightmare for the then county residents and various commissioners who
had it built and followed afterwards. Probably a good reason why today we have
no more county commissioner's. Some pretty interesting stories over the years
about some of those elected and served in the county offices. Here at Newstalk,
we're surprised no book was ever written about the late 1960s and 1970s at
Middlesex County commissioners office.

Happy

Congratulations to Simpson Avenue guy Eric K. Erquiza who
graduated from basic military training last week with the Air Force. Erquiza is
an airman and completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training
in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and
basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn
four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community
College of the Air Force. Eric is a 2008 Somerville High School grad.
Congratulations Eric.
