The Somerville Times photographer, Claudia Ferro, visited the Construction Technology department at Somerville High School this week.

The department is the gateway to one of the highest paid, in demand, occupations in the United States today. Entering students get a comprehensive introduction to safety, hand and power tools. The students will then progress to construction techniques and eventually residential house construction and re-modeling.

Off site projects are common in the third and fourth year of study. Fourth year students are encouraged to obtain co-operative work placements. Post secondary articulation agreements are in place and all construction technology students are directed whenever possible to study at the post-secondary level. Business classes make a fine addition to the students four year course of study.

Licenses, certifications, and affiliations include OSHA-30, First aid and AED/CPR certification, Ladder Safety Certification, Carpenter Local 218, Laborers Local 55

The school program is staffed by Lead Teacher Mario Sousa and by Robert Day.
