Sick of the spend and tax-style legislators, we have? We need tax breaks and incentives for the private sector and our present State Senator doesn’t hear us. Senator Pat Jehlan has been a public employee, elected to office since the early 1970s, so naturally we ask, how can she empathize with private businesses?  We heard that she chose not to have the word “incumbent” next to her name in the primary, but she doesn’t have that choice on November 2. So if you’re happy with the status quo vote her but we have a choice with David Carnvale a newcomer who never ran for office, but her and her minions along with the Farm Team have stooped to calling names because he had the nerve to run against the Queen.

One more thing, we suggest you go to YouTube and search Senator Pat Jehlen and listen to the video where it shows her talking about how she – in her own words – filled out her father’s application for his driver’s license renewal. A state senator admitting that she broke the law and laughing about it, kind of revealing of the fact that these politicians have become entitled and fear nothing – not even the  voters, hopefully this year we can send a message.

We heard that those janitors that were laid off earlier this year are planning a protest at City Hall and a lawsuit against the city. Seems they’re mad about having a week pay deducted for a furlough, then the administration hires this new Police Chief giving him $20,000 more in pay, sources for the janitors tell us that they want the furlough money re-deposited into their pay checks.

The Somerville Fire Department is beginning the Annual Inspection of all fire hydrants in the city. This procedure requires the flushing of water from the hydrants as well as a check of the mechanical operation of the hydrants. The inspection program will take approximately two weeks to complete. During the inspection, some sediment may be disturbed in the water mains causing rusty water at the taps in homes and business establishments. It is suggested that residents and business firms draw sufficient water for drinking and cooking. This rusty water condition is a temporary one, and will clear in a matter of a few hours. Although the water may appear dirty or discolored, it does not pose a health risk to city residents. The annual inspection of hydrants throughout the city is necessary to insure their proper operation during an emergency situation. The inspections will be conducted Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and in the evening, if needed, from 6:15 p.m. until 8:15 p.m. The testing will begin on Monday, September 27, 2010, and will be concluded by Saturday, October 9, 2010.
During this two-week period, all hydrants in the city will be tested. Anyone with questions regarding this procedure, may contact the Somerville Fire Department at (617) 623-1700 x 8120.

The Healthy Visions Project of Northeastern University will be at the Central Library (79 Highland Avenue) on Monday, September 27 at 6:30 p.m. to promote healthy foods, healthy neighborhoods, and healthy people, and invite you to enter a poster contest. Use your creativity to design a poster that shows healthy food and healthy neighborhoods. Your poster should clearly promote good health through pictures, or words. Think about designing a poster that you can see hanging in your community. What would make people think about health and talk about it with friends and family? You do not have to attend this workshop to submit a poster. For an explanation of the contest rules and prizes, email L.Rosenfeld@neu.edu or call 617-373-2673.
