While on a detail in full uniform on School Street last week, a police officer had stopped traffic for an exiting construction vehicle and was able to get a few of the remaining vehicles past the point of congestion.
When a vehicle operated by Heather Leet approached the officer’s position, she was told to stop, according to reports.
Leet reportedly disregarded the officer’s order and continued forward causing the officer to jump out of the way of the moving vehicle to avoid being struck.
The officer reported that Leet was only able to advance her vehicle a few feet away due to traffic at the red light.
At this point the officer reportedly approached the vehicle and said to Leet, “I told you to stop.”
The officer then reached into the vehicle to attempt to put it in park. At that moment Leet reportedly advanced the car forward again in a reckless manner, disregarding the potential harm to the officer, had he not moved out of the way.
It was at this point that the officer ran up to the now stopped vehicle and told Leet that she was under arrest.
Leet was removed from the driver’s seat and immediately began resisting, according to reports. The officer reportedly had to request from other units to assist in restraining Leet.
Several units responded to the scene, and one officer said that as he approached Leet looked directly at him and stated, “I admit it, I didn’t want to wait.”
A transport unit was requested and Leet was taken to the Somerville Police Department to be booked in the usual manner on charges of reckless operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, assault with a dangerous weapon, failure to stop for police, and resisting arrest.
