Created as an annual sale of knitted goods to benefit SHC, The Wrap Around Project has grown into a yearlong campaign that combines art and activism to raise awareness of the issue of homelessness in our area. Somerville’s homeless population is comprised of elders, single working adults, disabled individuals, and many families with children from newborns to teenagers. The typical homeless family that SHC serves is a mother with two children.
The Nave has had a number of exciting events planned throughout the year to promote and support the work of SHC. They invite all to join them in wrapping their arms around our community.
Their annual sale of handmade goods to benefit SHC continues through December 18 at Nave Gallery, 155 Powder House Blvd, Somerville (closed Thanksgiving weekend, November 26-27). Saturdays and Sundays, 1:00-5:00 p.m. Stop by and pick up some scarves, hats, bags, and lots more. Get it for yourself, or give as a gift.
Also, don’t miss the Cupcake Reception on Saturday, December 3, 1:00-5:00 p.m. Join in for an afternoon of music, desserts, and gift shopping all to support the SHC.
In 2014 alone, the Somerville Homeless Coalition (SHC) prevented 353 individuals from becoming homeless through their case management and housing program services. 152 of these individuals were children. Additionally, through programming like Project SOUP, 1,752 people had access to food.
