DREAMING
Keep living like you’re dreaming
Jason Wright
I will always keep dreaming you
not homeless
not slipping beneath icy water
no ambulance called
not dragged under palm trees,
glare of sun
too many skaters on the boardwalk
Dreaming no officer
picked you up
blacked out incoherent
phone stolen
homeless shelter Ward’s Island
bunkmate crack head chattering all night
Keep dreaming no rats
scurry around you
Everett junkyard
liquor seeping from your pores
last pawned trinket
my mother’s cross turquoise center
Keep dreaming you don’t break in
take everything
dreaming
You keep living like you’re dreaming
You’re living like you’re dreaming
outrunning death
in your cloak of black leaves
— Lee Varon
