The 5th Annual Corn Toss Tournament Fundraiser, organized by the Ryan Harrington Foundation, was held last Saturday at Trum Field in Somerville.
Over the past four years the Ryan Harrington Foundation has donated $45,000 to Somerville youth including Somerville Little League, Pop Warner, Somerville Youth Hockey, and the Somerville YMCA. Dave said they’re hoping to break $100,000 in the next couple of years.
The idea for a corn toss tournament came from their oldest son, David. David and Ryan used to play corn toss together.
Ryan Harrington died from a heroin overdose in 2011. He was 26.
On Saturday, Cathy and Dave Harrington along with the friends and family members that make up the foundation held their fifth annual corn toss tournament fundraiser for the Ryan Harrington Foundation in loving memory of Ryan.
They sold T-shirts, food, and drinks, and held raffles and a lot of kids’ activities.
Of this year’s event, Dave Harrington said, “Our family would like to thank everyone who supported us for the 5th annual Ryan Harrington Foundation Corn toss tournament. We are so grateful for the generosity of so many that helped our family during this year’s event. It’s just another example of family, friends and community coming together to give back to the children of Somerville and keeping our Ryan’s memory alive.”
Additionally, Harrington said, “To those who gave their time, made a donation, bought a raffle ticket or participated, from the bottom of our hearts Thank You. It was a great day one that has become a beautiful memory for all of us. We are humbled and truly blessed. With much love, thank you for making this year’s tournament a great success. Thanks to all of you we were able to raise a total of $16,000. After our event expenditures we are excited to announce that this year we will be donating another $10,000 to the youth of Somerville!”
