A police officer assigned to monitor traffic for the first day of school last week in the vicinity of Broadway observed a pickup truck with a commercial Massachusetts registration, go past with a rejected inspection sticker on the windshield.
The officer ran the plate number through the RMV, and it showed that the vehicle was rejected for emission reasons back in October of 2015. Additionally, the vehicle’s registration was revoked because the owner’s insurance had lapsed.
The officer stopped the vehicle using blue lights and siren and questioned the driver.
According to reports, it was determined that the vehicle was being operated by Denivaldo Ribeiro, of Revere.
The officer learned that Ribeiro is also the owner of the vehicle, but he had it registered in a company name.
According to the RMV, Ribeiro did not have a driver’s license, and never had held a valid license in Massachusetts.
The officer reported that his intention at the time was not to arrest Ribeiro, but to issue him a civil citation, tow his vehicle and warn him not drive until he obtained a valid license. However, Ribeiro reportedly told the officer that he would continue to drive and did not care if it was illegal to do so.
At that point the officer placed Ribeiro under arrest on charges of operation of a motor vehicle with a revoked registration, no inspection sticker, uninsured motor vehicle, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Ribeiro was taken to the police station in the transport wagon and processed by the booking officer on duty.
The arresting officer issued citations pertaining to the above stated charges.
This is Somerville where you don’t need a license or registration to drive. Just look at the police log each week. It’s normal.
