Who can honestly say that they don’t have a special place in their heart for warm summer days where lingering in the sun, soaking it in, makes up for all the icy months we suffer through off-season?

Still, there are times when the heat gets a little too intense for our liking and for our health and wellbeing – such as we’ve experienced this past week or so.

We can thank the city for setting up cooling centers and opening up ice skating venues to help relieve the effects of these high temperatures. They have been good as well at informing the public about safety measures that should be taken during severe weather events like this.

As long as the strong heat continues it is important to keep hydrated, watch your level of activity, and take special precautions in caring for kids, pets, elderly friends and family, etc., who may be dependent on our help and guidance.

Keep a sharp eye open as well for those pesky mosquitos that may be harboring very serious viruses, such as the West Nile variety. These creatures thrive very well during these conditions.

All in all, the good old summertime can remain a favorite occasion for us, as long as we bear in mind that certain steps need to be followed to ensure that we remain safe and happy. We hope it is so for you.
