In just the fourth season of existence, the St. Clement girls soccer team is aiming for a shot in the MIAA tournament. Despite just three seniors returning, the Anchorwomen will aim to overcome the odds en route to a successful campaign.

While just three seniors return, 11 juniors are on the varsity squad followed by several sophomores and underclassmen.

“We began with just 14 girls in our first year, and now the numbers have increased to 24 this season,” said Thornton. “I’m very pleased with the participation of the girls and we’re just continuing to improve.”

Not only are the Anchorwomen aiming to improve, but will also under a new coach. In the off-season Athletic Director Shawn Thornton hired Kevin Conlin, who won league championships while coaching at Lowell Catholic.

“Conlin is what we need to make a move in the league and possibly a tournament berth,” said Thornton. “His experience and leadership will show its true colors.”

Despite being the third coach in four years, Thornton is confident that Conlin will be able to build and develop the girls soccer program in the years to come.

“We think we have a run at it for a league title,’’ said Thornton. “I’ve been very impressed with the way the team is working together. We’re hoping we can have a successful season.”

Leading the way for the Anchorwomen are seniors Kendra Brathwaite, Laura Odom along with Victoria Gay followed by juniors Jen Amaral, Elva Martinez, Diana Tran and goalkeeper Beatrice Everett.
