Residents and visitors to the city gathered for the annual Joe’s Jazz & Blues Fest that took place at Powderhouse Park in Somerville this past Saturday.

Billed as the “brainchild” of Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone, who played trumpet in the Somerville High School Jazz Band, the event is generally regarded as one of the best all-day free concerts around.

There was non-stop music from 12:00 – 6:00 p.m. The Somerville High School Street Holler Serenade kicked off the concert at noon, getting the crowd going with sounds ranging from American Jazz to Delta Blues.

The day’s festivities continued with Danielle M & the Glory Junkies, Dan Fox Foxet, Alexei Tsiganov Group, The Barrett Anderson Band, and Mr. Ho’s Orchestrotica.

Attendees made themselves comfortable on picnic blankets, in lawn chairs, and even in the cool grass of beautiful Powderhouse Park. Everyone agreed that the atmosphere – and the music – couldn’t have been better.
