Loss prevention agents from the Kmart store at Middlesex Ave. contacted Somerville police on Sunday, informing them that they had two suspicious individuals under observation, suspected of shoplifting.

The responding officers were reportedly informed that one of the suspects was observed carrying a box cutter and concealing store merchandise in his front pants pockets.

According to reports, the individual in question, later identified as Jerome Pellot-Cintron, of Dorchester, got into line with his female companion to purchase other items that they had in their cart.

Police officers waited outside, along with the store security personnel, waiting for the couple to exit the store.

The moment that the two suspects exited the store, police stopped Pellot-Cintron and confiscated the knife he was carrying. Police then asked Pellot-Cintron for the items that he had concealed and he removed multiple items from his pockets.  According to reports, he had in his possession three pairs of gloves, one charger, a package of B-Complex supplement, a 42-pc tool set, and a pick set tool.

The loss prevention staff reportedly told the officers that Pellot-Cintron had been observed taking tools out of a tool set and putting them into his pocket.
Pellot-Cintron reportedly stated that his companion had nothing to do with the theft and that he was just being stupid. He further stated that he had the money to pay for the items and that he would gladly pay for them now, police said.

Unfortunately for Pellot-Cintron, the officers were obliged to place him under arrest for shoplifting by asportation.
