The Veterans’ Commission on Monuments, Memorials and Dedications, in cooperation with Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and the Department of Veterans Services, announce Somerville’s 2nd annual “Heroes Salute” Ceremony, inducting nine Somerville veterans to the city’s ”Heroes Square” program. The Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 21, at 11 a.m., at the Somerville High School Auditorium, in conjunction with national Armed Forces Day.
Honorees include:
- Sergeant Arthur J. Downey, U.S. Army, USPS
- Private First Class Edward J. Faulkner, Jr., U.S. Army, Somerville Police
- Specialist Fourth Class Alan N. Galatis, U.S. Army, City of Somerville
- Sergeant David G. James, U.S. Army, Past commander of Post 1 United States Vietnam Veterans
- Private First Class Daniel R. Matthews, U.S. Army, Somerville Police
- Staff Sergeant Guido P. Salvi, U.S. Army, Somerville Fire
- Patrick J. Sullivan, U.S. Army, Somerville Fire
- Corporal Robert F. Vallone, U.S. Army, Somerville Housing Authority
- Specialist First Class Robert A. Ventura, U.S. Army, MA National Guard
