It’s like a pebble in our shoe. This seemingly endless annoyance of dealing with getting the GLX funding adequately squared away without bankrupting ourselves in the process. A dizzying array of meetings and press releases to digest, while hoping to form an educated opinion on where we should stand on all of this.

Most of us seem to agree that the GLX and the accompanying Community Path are things that will enhance the quality of our lives, increase our property values, and so on. The sobering question that must always be applied is at what cost do we achieve these things?

Already the cost overruns are staggering. Questionable bidding and contract awarding practices have left us gun shy and hesitant to believe anything that anyone tells us. And yet the issue remains: do we see it through to the end – at whatever cost we can manage to cover – or just call it quits and quietly crawl away, licking our many wounds.

There is middle ground, of course. Scaling back on “luxuries” and compromising certain aspects of the original design factors could bring the budget down to a workable figure. That’s what this latest round of meetings is mostly about. We’re looking to save the project, which is what we probably ought to do.

But won’t it be nice if and we we finally get past all of this fuss and bother about it? Please, let’s just get it done.
