Police responded to the Saks Fifth Avenue at Assembly Row last Friday evening on reports of a shoplifter in the store.
Upon arrival, a store employee reportedly told officers that a man, later identified as Volodymyr Gurin, of Newton, selected four pairs of sunglasses, removed their security tags and concealed them in his coat pocket. He then selected a pair of shoes, went to the register and paid for them.
According to the employee, Gurin then concealed two belts and two pairs of underwear in his coat. He then selected three coats and a white shirt and entered the fitting room. When Gurin came out of the fitting room, one coat was reportedly missing.
Gurin then proceeded to the shoe section and concealed two pairs of shoes in his shopping bag. He then selected another pair of shoes, went to the register and paid for one pair, according to reports.
Gurin then selected a white shirt and concealed it in his bag before exiting the store. Loss prevention agents reportedly stopped Mr. Gurin outside the store and escorted him back to their office.
The store manager cancelled the two purchases that Gurin made and returned the money to him. Gurin was trespassed from Saks in Somerville and Wrentham.
The police officers then placed Gurin under, charging him with larceny over $250 and removal of a theft detection device.
