Somerville Community Access Television is happy to host the 5th Hyperlocal News & Media Meetup on Thursday, April 14 at 7:00 pm. This quarterly meetup will be followed by a tour of SCATV. Our featured guests are the founders of Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism – find out more about who BINJ is and how you can get involved in their local news efforts.

In addition to the special talk from BINJ, you will meet people doing work in the hyperlocal journalism field and learn more about what is happening in and around the greater Boston area in terms of community journalism and alternative media. We will explore best practices in the local news/media, collaborations/partnership ideas, marketing tips and have a chance to build a stronger community media field. Please come to also show support for the hyperlocal news efforts.

The agenda for the night:

1. Hear from our guests from BINJ
2. Show examples of work people are doing – people should come with questions if they are seeking any feedback re: production, story quality, etc.
3. Go around and share biggest hurdles and biggest successes from doing a local news or TV show
4. Get a tour of SCATV
5. Mingle!
