A 21-year-old Cambridge man was arrested in a stolen car Sunday smoking marijuana and turning the car on and off without moving for an hour on Moreland Street.

Salnave Berrouet, 21, told police he paid cash to his friend Frank to rent the car which had been reported stolen in Melrose, police said.

Officers initially responded after a witness on Moreland Street complained about several people in a parked van for hours.

Police said officers smelled marijuana when they opened the car doors. Police allegedly found two large bags of marijuana in the car.

Police allegedly found a small knife on Salnave. Salnave was the only person arrested, the others were released at the scene, police said. He was arrested and charged with using a motor vehicle without authority, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, possession to distribute a class D drug, possession of a dangerous weapon, and drug violation near a school zone.
