As a culminating activity to their poetry unit, second grade students at the Winter Hill Community Innovation School presented a “Poetry Slam” on Friday, February 12th.  Students highlighted their poetry writings with eloquent ‘performances’ of their poetry in front of an appreciative audience. Parents were in attendance, along with fifth grade book buddies.

Second grade teachers and students collaborated with the music teacher, Ms. Stier, to write music to accompany their poems. Ms. Stier also provided instruments to add more spirit to the poems’ rhythmic selections.  All the second grade students will “keep a poem in their pockets” forever.
