Free songwriting, instrument classes available through city

The City of Somerville’s Youth Arts Coordinator, Jimmy Del Ponte, announces three FREE opportunities for Somerville youth looking to learn to play the guitar or piano, or how to write songs. Somerville residents ages 12 and older are invited to apply for these ongoing programs, though space is limited. Jimmy Del Ponte is a published songwriter and musician with a background in radio and entertainment. Intro to Songwriting

Learn the basics of composing songs! Classes are held Monday afternoons from 3 to 4 p.m., from March 7 through May 10, at the Edgerly School (8 Bonair St.).

Beginning Guitar

A 10 week, hands-on approach to basic guitar skills. Classes are held Tuesday afternoons from 3 to 4 p.m., from March 8 through May 11, at the Edgerly School (8 Bonair St.).

Beginning Piano

Learn basic hand positions, chords, and exercises in a 10 week, non-technical approach to piano.  Classes are held Wednesday afternoons from 3 to 4 p.m., from March 9 through May 12, in the Edgerly School (8 Bonair St.).

Individuals with disabilities who need auxiliary aids and services for effective communication, written materials in alternative formats, or reasonable modifications in policies and procedures, in order to access the programs and activities of the City of Somerville or to attend meetings, should contact the City’s ADA Coordinator, Betsy Allen, at 617-625-6600 x2323 or BAllen@somervillema.gov.
