MS-13 gang members armed with a baseball bat and metal pipe chased a 16-year-old Somerville boy down lower Broadway May 11, according to police.

The 16-year-old victim was returning home from work when he got off the bus near Franklin Street and noticed four males following him, police said. The group chased the victim and started to yell in Spanish, police said.



The boy, who doesn't speak or understand Spanish, was able to get his keys in his hands as he ran and quickly entered his home, police said.

He barely made it to his hallway and ehen the gang members missed him, they smashed a small window on his door, police said.

The victim told officers he was afraid the MS-13 members would "cut him" with a machete, police said.

Officers arrested Oscar Ramirez, 18, homeless, a 16-year-old Carlton Street boy and a 16-year-old Pearl Street boy after they saw the teens enter Capatio restaurant at 82 Broadway.

Police allegedly found a metal pipe and baseball bat in the women's bathroom at the restaurant. The victim identified all three teens as his attackers, police said.

Ramirez and the two juveniles were charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. Police allegedly found a knife in Ramirez' shoe and he was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon.

As they were being booked, Ramirez and one of the juveniles admitted to being members of the MS-13 street gang, police said.
