Displaced since August and left unsure of when reoccupation will be possible, partners Michael Krupp and Chef Jeff Pond announce they have terminated their lease for 445 Somerville Avenue and effectively closed A4 Pizza.
The restaurant has been shuttered since August 1, when an underground electrical fire involving wires owned by Eversource Utility Company left 445 Somerville Ave in a dangerous and altered state, unfit for occupation or business. Though the A4 team had originally been given assurances that the matter would be promptly attended to and the building would reopen within days or weeks, those weeks have now become months. Faced with an indeterminate timeframe for restorations and repairs, Krupp and Pond believe the best decision is to move on.
“It is with heavy hearts that we leave Union Square,” said Krupp. “We’re disappointed to shut our doors but proud of what we achieved at A4 Pizza, from gracing the cover of Boston magazine to being named among the best pizza in the country by outlets such as Thrillist and Zagat. Chef Pond and I feel a strong affinity for the Somerville community, and are grateful for the support and patronage of our many customers who live, work and visit the area.”
Krupp and Pond are determined to reopen the restaurant in a new location within the city of Somerville, and are actively seeking places to pop-up with their newest venture, A4 Mobile. A pizza “trailer” featuring the same wood-fired Le Panyol oven as A4 Pizza, A4 Mobile is also available for booking at private parties and events. Interested parties can call the Kendall Square location at 617-758-4444.
