The Ryan “Duce” Morrissey Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser 2nd annual basketball tournament was held at St. Clement High School in Medford beginning last Thursday evening, and continuing through Sunday night.
Many came out in support of the teams and the event, making full use of the many concession items that were available for purchase. Raffles offered great prizes, including a Celtics Package consisting of two game tickets, two hats, two pairs of gloves and a pair of Marcus Smart game worn and signed sneakers.
All this in support of the scholarship fund established in memory of Ryan “DUCE” Morrissey, a student at St. Clement, who was brutally shot to death outside a Charlestown convenience store on November 9, 2014.
Shortly after that tragic event, Morrissey’s classmates established the basketball tournament/fundraiser to honor his memory. This year’s event was the second of its kind, and will likely not be the last.
Teams from nearby schools participated in tournament, including players from Saint Raphael’s, Somerville 8th grade Tradition team, and the Greater Lawrence YMCA team.
All proceeds from the event go towards a scholarship fund set up in Morrissey’s name.
