Join the All-America City of Somerville, MA for the fourth annual Grooversity Percussion Festival on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015! From 1 to 5 p.m., at East Somerville Community School. The All-America City Grooversity Festival will feature live music and interactive workshops by renowned drumming and percussion masters, a community drum circle, a youth activity and networking fair, and more! The festival will also celebrate the City’s third All-America City Award, focusing on youth engagement and youth leadership.

Featured instructors include:
•Casey Scheuerell (Chaka Khan) and Marcus Santos (Grooversity, Gypsy Kings). American and Brazilian Jazz workshop

•Rudimental drumming performance and workshop with Dominick Cuccia

•Beat Bus workshop with Maria Finkelmeyer

•Drum Circle with Marcus Santos

​In addition, there will be special workshops and performances by:
• Teen Empowerment: Find Your Voice
• 7th and 8th grade World Percussion Ensembles from Somerville Public Schools
•Drumset solo by Daniel Sambula, 11 year old prodigy

•Bloco AfroBrazil

Kids and adults are invited to attend, participate and have a chance to win prizes in this FREE percussion festival. They may walk in at any time during the event. The festival will also be streamed on-line on December 11, 12 and 13 and may be viewed at www.grooversity.com

A youth activity fair will include presentations, workshops, and activity tables by some of Somerville’s youth-serving agencies, and young attendees may enter to win raffle prizes. Featured activities include but are not limited to school garden tours, Teen Empowerment leadership workshops, commemorative All-America City tshirt giveaways, and much more. Grooversity is a drumming project envisioned by Brazilian born percussionist Marcus Santos. Its mission is to provide community outreach for social good by offering world drumming workshops, courses and entertainment to youth and adults of all ages. Grooversity is making a difference in Somerville, MA, as well as cities and towns in twenty three cities in France, Canada and in the US.
