Police received a call from the Loss Prevention Manager at the Saks Off 5th store on Canal St. last week, advising them that he was going to apprehend two males who were allegedly observed committing acts of larceny in the store.

Officers were subsequently dispatched to the store and waited outside until the suspects made their exit. The two men were intercepted by the officers and taken back inside, into the store’s Loss Prevention office.

The officers were advised that the two mean had entered the store and selected 15 items, including men’s clothing, sunglasses and a black Michael Kors handbag, valued at a total of $869.52.

The two suspects then approached the checkout area and one of the two men, Jordan Alves, of Pepperell, proceeded to present the items to the cashier.

Another store employee reportedly observed the cashier, Tracie Calder, of Everett, ring up only the case for the sunglasses while bagging the rest of the items as if they too had been paid for.

Calder then reportedly handed the bags with the items the two men selected to Alves, along with some other bags that she had filled with other store merchandise earlier that day. These items reportedly included clothing and jewelry totaling $760.48 in value.

When questioned by police, Alves was asked why he only paid $15.10 for such a valuable collection of merchandise. Alves reportedly told police that he thought he must have been getting a “good deal.”

Alves was placed under arrest and charged with conspiracy and larceny over $250 by false pretenses. He was also booked on a number of outstanding warrant charges.

Calder was likewise placed under arrest and charged with conspiracy and larceny over $250 by false pretenses.
