The 4th Annual Fight Night was held this past Friday night, sponsored by Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, the Department of Recreation and the Somerville Boxing Club. Together they put on a great show at the Somerville High School gym.

The event was originally scheduled for Dilboy Stadium, but because of the threat of rain it was decided days in advance to move it to the high school gym.

A standing room only crowd of 500 to 600 attended the event in a gym that was very hot and humid, but the crowd still seemed to enjoy the evening.

A total of 16 bouts were on the card for the night from amateurs all over Massachusetts and New England.

The parking was tight around City Hall and the high school, and people were showing up all night long to see the show.

The president of the Boxing Club, Stoney (Norman Stone), has worked hard over the years to get this club on solid ground and become a place where teenagers who are at risk can have a place to go and learn the art of boxing.

Stoney is well known here in the city. He himself is a native, having grown up here. He has done a great job getting this club to be recognized as a place where our youth can go and learn how to be good sportsmen, competitors and achieve self-confidence.
