A newly renovated Thurston Spa will be re-opening under new ownership on Tuesday, September 1.

The Thurston Spa, located at 393 Medford Street in Gilman Square, will have a new menu and new hours. Under the new ownership of John Ferrera, a well known Winter Hill resident for many years and a former old time customer, decided to buy the store shortly after the death of the previous owner, Jerry LaFee.

Ferrera decided to start over with a new look and a new menu for the neighborhood. He and two friends operated the place for a while after LaFee became ill. After the previous owner passed away, Ferrera decided to buy the store. He is almost ready with the renovations being completed very soon, and his application for a license by the city finalized.

The new Thurston Spa will be open Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., closed on Sundays.

A brand new menu with breakfast all day long and every day a luncheon special is offered and, of course, Thurston Spa’s famous subs all day.

Ferrera is also offering free delivery throughout Somerville and Medford to the many who have asked for it.

Many who grew up in the neighborhood remember Thurston Spa well. From what we hear, the new look will be very exciting and the food is going to be great. A place greatly needed in this very close neighborhood.

We hope you join John, his family and his friends, beginning at 6:00 a.m. on the first of September. Who knows? Maybe some local dignitaries will show up, including the alderman and mayor?
