"As we once again finalize plans for our annual Memorial Day Parade, it's important to remember that this is not merely a community celebration, but a way to remember and honor the sacrifices of past and present soldiers who serve and protect this country," Mayor Curtatone said. "I am proud that the City is able to once again host one of the region's largest parades, with the generous support of the Somerville community, and I look forward to honoring our veterans with the entire community on May 30th."
"Thank you to all of the residents and community members who attended this year's fundraiser, and contributed to make the 2010 parade bigger and better than ever," said Somerville Veterans Services Director Frank Senesi. "Somerville has one of the best parades in the metro area, and we're glad to be able to continue to host it, and to honor our veterans as we celebrate our nation's history."
The parade will include 20 marching bands, along with a wide range of community and school groups, specialty unit from the Aleppo Shriners, and local veterans', fire, and police outfits from surrounding cities and towns. Beginning at Somerville High School, the parade will continue along Highland Avenue, through Davis Square to Holland Street, and onto Broadway ending at the Cemetery in Teele Square. Ceremonies will be held rain or shine.
