A Cambridge man was arrested Aug. 11 after he allegedly stole cash and credit cards from a patron at Diesel Cafe in Davis Square.

John McLean, 50, allegedly stole a woman’s hand bag and staggered out of the cafe, police said.

An officer who had had an encounter with McLean earlier in the night saw McLean counting cash and with credit cards in his had, police said.

When McLean put the cards down, the officer could see that they had the name of the victim. McLean was arrested and charged with larceny from a person. As police were placing McLean in a cell they found a wallet hidden in his underwear that contained checks belonging to the victim, police said.
