After a strong push to end the regular season, the Somerville Alibrandi’s continued to place their run for another Yawkey League Championship into high gear.

Following a strong 7-0 win over the Revere Rockies in the opener of the best of three series last Thursday, the Alibrandis rolled to a strong 6-0 shutout win on Friday. With a commanding 2-0 series lead as of press time the Alibrandis are leaving no stone unturned.

“We’re continuing to play our best baseball of the season right now,’’ said coach Rob McDonough. “We’re getting some solid pitching as well as some timely hitting. Our defense has been solid, and I’ve been extremely pleased with how things have gone for us so far. We’re playing our best baseball right now, and I hope we can find a way to keep it going.”

In Friday’s victory, the Alibrandis manufactured a run in the top of the second before increasing the lead to 2-0 in the top of the third. In the top of the fifth, the Alibrandi’s secured the victory, erupting for a four run surge to extend the lead to 6-0.

“We were able to get some huge runs late in the game, and that pretty much helped us secure the victory,’’ said McDonough. “We can’t take anyone for granted at this point in the season, and we’re out there playing really intense baseball right now.”

On the mound, ace Marc DesRoches earned the victory, firing five strong innings while allowing four hits, striking out seven and walking one while Jay Wisner followed with two hitless frames.

Offensively, DesRoches also emerged as a force at the plate, recording two doubles while belting out two hits and scoring two runs. Other key contributors included Sal Mendonca, who recorded a double and three RBIs while Bernie Driscoll also contributed with a pair of hits. Also hitting a two run home run was Ted Dziuba followed by Chad Conner, Matt Deeb and Anthony Tomaro, who each chipped in with a hit apiece.

Led by a masterful performance by Chris Foundas, the Alibrandi’s cruised to a 7-0 shutout win in Thursday’s opener. Foundas allowed just two hits, while striking out seven and walking three in earning the victory.

“(Foundas) did a tremendous job,’’ said McDonough. “He kept the ball over the plate and was very consistent throughout the game. He pounded the strike zone and kept their hitters off balance.”

After grabbing a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Alibrandis added two in the top of the fourth before sealing the win with three in the top of the fifth and one on the sixth.

Offensively, Driscoll, DesRoches, Justin Crisafulli and Dziuba each led the way, recording two hits apiece while combining for six RBIs.

Adding a triple was David Scioli while Connor also chipped in with a hot. Scoring a run and knocking a run was Pat Noble, who played in his first Yawkey League playoff game.
