This year's Blessing of the Bay is taking place at the Boathouse on Shore Drive in Somerville over in the Ten Hills, on the beautiful shores of the Mystic. The event will be this Saturday June 5 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. This is when all the boats cram into the Mystic River to be blessed for a safe and happy boating season. Keep an eye out for our own "Miss Somerville News" boat where we will be covering the event from start to finish!

Candidate Terrance Kennedy for Governors Councilor is being lead around the city by various locals in particular we see he's been personally taken round by H. Foster head of the Zoning board. Herb has a reputation of not doing anything for anyone unless he's going to directly benefit from it, maybe he's looking for another job? To add to the already three possible public pensions he's going to collect from.

One of our Newstalkers recently discovered by the slip of the tongue that a local movie scout has joined membership to the Twin City Tanning Salon as well as the Gold's Gym located at the Twin City Shopping Plaza in search for a few local talents to be in a new movie that's going to be shot in and around Somerville and Boston area this coming fall. So far we heard that one local girl has been chosen but they are still looking for four more.

We hear that well known barber Tony Alibrandi has been ill and was in the hospital recently. Here at The News, we wish him well and hope to see him back at the barber shop getting all the local gossip. By the way, recently for the first time in many years, we saw a political sign in his barber shop window.

With all the layoffs and lack of money in the budgets at state and city level, never mind the unemployment rate here and elsewhere in the state, you'd think our Senators would have voted in favor of that Senate bill that would require proof of residency before anyone could receive aid in housing or any assistance from the state. Not our Senators, nope they both were one of 10 that voted NO to the bill, against 30 Senators who voted yes. Wonder how they are going to explain their vote when the city has to lay off people from jobs? Just another thing to remember when you go to the polls and vote on November 3. We know that Senator Jehlen has a challenger and yes he's a Republican. Check out the voting record of our delegation online at the News or in print every week, read it and study and make sure you know how they voted.

This Thursday night at Gargoyles in Davis Square is the monthly Chamber of Commerce get together. It starts at 6 and goes to 8 p.m. It's always a great networking event.

Job well done and we're sure everyone that saw the parade will agree that Veterans Services Director Frank Senesi did a great job this year organizing such a patriotic event. This was probably the biggest parade in recent history. We hear that he's already working on next year's parade to be even bigger, great job Frank.
