Middlesex%20DA%20Marian%20Ryan%20LogoMiddlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Carlos Colina, 32, of Cambridge, has been arraigned on charges of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and improper disposal of a body in connection with the discovery of human remains in Cambridge this past weekend.  Cambridge District Court Judge Roanne Sragow set bail at $1 million cash and bail was revoked in an open case involving this defendant.  The next scheduled court hearing for Colina is Tuesday, April 14.

“This was a gruesome discovery,” said District Attorney Ryan.  “Detectives are continuing to analyze evidence and awaiting information from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner so that we may determine if additional charges are warranted.  We are not seeking anyone else in connection with the discovery of these human remains.”

Authorities say the remains which were found at two locations are those of one individual.  The victim has been identified as Jonathan Camilien, 26, of Somerville.  Authorities say Camilien and the suspect were known to each other.

This incident was reported on Saturday morning, April 4, when the Cambridge Police Department received a call about a suspicious package outside at Loughery Way in the area of 225 Binney and 6th Streets.  A bag was found which contained part of a dismembered body.  Officials  say a video led them to a nearby apartment complex where additional body parts were discovered inside that building.  The defendant was taken into custody and arrested that day.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has conducted an autopsy and is awaiting toxicology results before issuing a final ruling on the cause and manner of death.

Colina currently has an open criminal case in Middlesex County in which he is charged with assault and battery.  That case is still pending and the alleged victim in that incident is not the victim in this case.

The Cambridge Police Department and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the District Attorney’s Office are investigating this incident.   If anyone has any information that may assist with the ongoing investigation, please contact the Cambridge Police Department:  617-349-3300.
