Local police make arrest for possession of OxyContin with intent to distribute.

(from the City of Somerville)

Local police today arrested City of Somerville Housing Inspector George Duffney for possession of a class B substance (OxyContin) with intent to distribute.

The arrest stems from an investigation that began on May 7, 2010, involving a narcotic surveillance outside the residence at 11 Dresden Circle in Somerville. In previous years, that residence has been the site for several arrests involving the violation of controlled substance laws and Somerville police had received reports that new illegal drug activity may have been taking place on the premises.

After entering and exiting the Dresden Circle residence on May 7, Duffney was pulled over by Somerville police. They found two 80 millgram tablets of OxyContin and one 30 milligram tablet on his person. After a thorough investigation, Duffney and another were arrested today in conjunction with the May 7 incident. Duffney has no prior drug offenses on his record.

Duffney, 53, was hired by the City in October, 2008. He has worked as a lead inspector inside the City's Office of Housing and Community Development. His employment with the city has been terminated.
