This is the positive experience and such an amazing act of kindness that my Mom and I received from the Team at Chipotle in Davis Square. Chris Gruber (Chipotle Team Leader), and Denise Rodriguez (Chipotle Restauranteur) and the entire Chipotle Davis Square Family of Somerville, MA deserved to be recognized.

My brother at the age of 33, who was an employee of Chipotle/Davis Square, passed away on January 15, 2015 of a sudden death, yet undetermined. My brother was employed by Chipotle for only 7 months, but the support that my family and I received from Chipotle leadership and his peers, has been like no other.

At often times, there is a misconception of how” fast food” restaurants/chains treat their employees. The misconception is, low pay, long hours, no benefits and that everyone is treated and reminded that they are easily replaceable. I would like to highlight a company that truly embodies the “you are only as good as your team” approach by treating their employees exceptionally and like family.

I knew that Chipotle was a great company because my brother often ranted and raved about how well they treated their employees and how he looked forward to going to work. He mentioned that if you showed them determination and potential to succeed that they would do everything on their end to help shape and mold a bright future with Chipotle. Chipotle took my brother under their wing and was preparing him for a bright future with them. Although my brother’s future with Chipotle was short lived, what will live on is the overwhelming support that my Mom and I have received from Chris, Denise and the Chipotle Davis Square Family.

A few things that must be noted are that on the day of the funeral, the Davis Square location sacrificed earnings and closed so that “all” of my brothers co-workers could attend and pay their respects. Additionally, Chipotle graciously offered and catered the food for the family gathering after the funeral. They didn’t just stop at just showing up the wake/burial, they also made sure that they went to the location of the family gathering to ensure that the food that was delivered met their standards and that there was plenty, and there was.

Additionally, the entire Chipotle Davis Square Family presented me with a generous contribution that they gathered amongst themselves to assist with the financial burden that comes along at an unexpected time like this. I was and still am at a loss for words at all the forms of generous, meaningful and thoughtful support provided by Chipotle.

My family and I will always show love and support to the Chipotle brand for truly valuing and doing the best for their employees, or in my case, for one that is now in heaven.
