Police officers were dispatched to the Community Laundry on Bow St. Sunday afternoon on reports of a breaking and entering in progress.

Police was advised that an intruder into the laundromat’s office area was being monitored via security camera and that the suspect appeared to be attempting to break into the office’s safe.

Upon arrival, police reportedly approached the office inside the laundromat and opened its door. There they discovered a man, identified as Raoul St. Pierre, standing in front of the office safe, with a screwdriver in his hand, according to reports.

Officers took the screwdriver from St. Pierre, handcuffed him and walked him out to the main area of the laundromat.

A pat frisk turned up a set of keys, clearly labeled as belonging to the laundromat, and a substantial amount of loose change, police said.

An examination of the office safe showed evidence of an attempt to pry open its door.

St. Pierre was taken into custody and charged with breaking into a depository, possession of burglarious instruments, and felony daytime breaking and entering before being transported for booking.

The laundromat’s owner arrived and reported to the officers how he had observed St. Pierre through the facility’s video surveillance apparatus, monitoring this remotely at his home. When he noticed the intrusion he called police and reported on the suspect’s action as police were en route to the laundromat.

In addition to the attempted break-in of the safe, the owner verified that some change was missing from the cash register.
