Police were dispatched to a Medford St. location at around 2:00 a.m. last Sunday on reports of a larceny of a motor vehicle in progress.

Upon arrival, officers found a group of three men holding a fourth man down on the ground.

The reporting party was among the men who were holding down the suspect, Rodrigo Mateus, 29.

Police were reportedly told that the group of men had discovered Mateus sitting in a car that was parked near the others’ cars in a lot nearby the reporting party’s residence. One of the reporting party’s friend’s car had been broken into and the contents of the car had been strewn around, as if someone had been searching for something, police said.

When the group spotted Mateus sitting in the nearby car they pulled him out and held him until police arrived.

A search by police reportedly turned up a cell phone in a pink case, two credit cards, a silver color ring, a sliver color necklace with pendant and a black color cell phone case was discovered in the pockets of Mateus’ clothing.

The two credit cards had a female’s name, which Mateus reportedly said he didn’t know. Mateus also denied ownership of the jewelry and cell phone.

Mateus was placed under arrest and charged with nighttime breaking and entering of a vehicle or boat and receiving stolen property over $250.
