Somerville’s snow emergency will be lifted tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 28 at noon. Residents who parked in a municipal or school lot will have until 2 p.m. to move their vehicles. Parking meters will be back in effect when the emergency ends, as will enforcement of 48-hour parking. Resident permit parking enforcement will resume at noon on Thursday, so make sure your permit is visible on your car. Find out more about the end of the snow emergency and all the City’s snow policies at http://www.somervillema.gov/snow.

TRAVEL BAN LIFTED AT MIDNIGHT

Gov. Baker lifted the travel ban effective at midnight, but has urged employers to consider conditions when determining staffing for Wednesday.

SHOVELING TIME EXTENDED

Because of the heavy snowfall, property owners have until noon on Thursday, Jan. 29 to clear sidewalks of snow and ice. Sidewalks not cleared to a minimum of 42 inches by noon Thursday can be ticketed.

SCHOOLS, CITY HALL, LIBRARIES

Somerville Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 28. City Hall and Public Libraries will be open at noon Wednesday with essential staffing.

CLEARING THE ROADS

Crews will be continuing to clear snow from the roads (130 workers were out today), and you can help by not parking (even temporarily) on the even side of the street until noon Wednesday. Snow emergency parking rules are still in effect, so cars parked on the even side can be ticketed or towed. If you have a non-emergency question or service request, please call 311 (or 617-666-3311 from a cell phone or outside the city). For emergencies, please remember to call 911. If you haven’t already, sign up to receive phone, email, and/or text alerts at http://www.somervillema.gov/alerts.
