The anticipated snowstorm that has been christened “Juno” hit the northeast hard, as was expected, and residents and city work crews have been spending most of Tuesday digging out and trying to keep up with the snowfall.

The City of Somerville reports that it has 95 vehicles and 130 crew members out clearing streets and sidewalks today.

All routes are being now being reported as passable for public safety equipment.

The DPW anticipated salting to start at around 2 p.m., which was when workers would start getting it clear to the pavement.

According to current reports, Somerville has accumulated 16-18 inches so far and expects 20-22 inches of snowfall in total.

The city has said that they don’t know yet when the parking ban will be lifted as they are still monitoring the storm.

At this time, the city reports that it had to tow 75 vehicles.

Additionally, the city says that it has a team, location, supplies and home evacuation procedures ready to go should shelters be needed, but up until now there have been no power outages or other situations leading to that need.
