‘Shopping’ with wire cutters didn’t pay off

Police officers were dispatched to the Assembly Square Marketplace on Middlesex Ave. Sunday evening on reports of a female shoplifter being detained by loss prevention personnel.

Upon arrival, police were informed that a woman, Mireille Val, 61, of Boston, had been reportedly observed via the video monitoring system cutting electronic security tags off of store merchandise, specifically clothing.

The store security team further stated that they had observed Val as she placed the clothing into a shoulder bag and left the store without paying.

The security personnel reportedly caught up with Val and escorted her back into the store.

The store merchandise was retrieved from her bag and inventoried, according to reports. She was reportedly in possession of clothing valued at $330.38.

A pair of wire cutters was also reportedly found to be in her possession, police said.

Val was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a burglarious instrument and larceny over $250.
