The second of two job fairs this year, hosted by Somerville’s First Source Jobs Initiative, will be held on Wednesday, October 29, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Cambridge Health Alliance/Somerville Hospital Campus (230 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA). This is an opportunity to connect Somerville residents to local jobs. Job seekers who live, work or study in Somerville, or have been displaced within a year, are encouraged to attend.

“The best employees for any business are people who know the community where they work,” said Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone. “Local workers means better service for customers. It also means better quality of life for those workers, who are able to save time and money with shorter commutes, allowing them to spend more time with their families and save income for other essentials. Connecting local workers with local jobs keeps our economy strong, and our neighborhoods and squares vibrant places to live, work, play and raise a family.”

After a successful job fair this past June, attracting local job seekers for more than 40 different types of positions at numerous local businesses, this upcoming event aims to expand employment opportunities for Somerville residents to secure good quality work close to home. “We’ve been working closely with local businesses to provide job opportunities that our residents need and want,” said Danny LeBlanc, CEO of Somerville Community Corporation.

The First Source Jobs Initiative is a collaborative effort between the Somerville Community Corporation (SCC), The Career Place (TCP), and the City of Somerville to match Somerville residents with over 30,000 jobs expected to become available in the City by 2030. As part of this effort, the First Source Jobs Initiative is developing a Talent Bank with information on job seekers in Somerville, as well as establishing relationships with local employers so First Source participants can learn about, and successfully obtain, jobs available in the City.
