The
City's second SomerStreets event will be held on Saturday, June 19th in
conjunction with Joe's Jazz and Blues Fest, the annual Family Fun Day,
and the rescheduled Citywide Spring Cleanup.

"The first
SomerStreets event along Shore Drive in May was a tremendous success,
and with a variety of upcoming summer events, this is another great
opportunity to celebrate the Somerville community through arts and
music," Mayor Curtatone said. "With community-oriented, family-friendly
activities throughout the day, I hope this will serve not only as
another celebration, but also a way to meet residents and community
members from all of our neighborhoods and squares, and from all ethnic
backgrounds."

The day's full schedule is as follows:

10:00 A.M.:

Spring Cleanup begins:

* Ward 1: Cross Street Senior Center, 165 Broadway; AND Capuano School

* Ward 2: Union Square Parking Lot at SCAT Building

* Ward 3: City Hall Concourse, 93 Highland Ave.

* Ward 4: Blessing of the Bay Boat House, Shore Drive

* Ward 5: Community Path at Cedar Street

The
Spring Cleanup, originally scheduled for May 8th, will be held from
10am-noon at the above locations throughout the City. The community BBQ
following the Cleanup will be moved from Nunziato Field to Trum Field,
in conjunction with Family Fun Day, from noon-5:00 pm. SomerStreets
will take place along Broadway from Magoun Square to the Powderhouse
rotary, and along Powderhouse Boulevard to the NAVE Gallery from
noon-5:00 pm, and the second annual Joe's Jazz and Blues Fest will also
kick off on the 19th with live concerts in Powderhouse Park from
noon-8:00 pm.

SomerStreets is an extension of Shape Up
Somerville that closes sections of roads within the city offering
programming along the route while promoting active living with programs
for bicyclists, walkers, and pedestrians of all ages. Similar programs
will be held each month throughout the summer, in different Somerville
neighborhoods.

Parking restrictions, street closures, and bus
detours will apply on several streets in the Magoun Square, Ball
Square, and Powderhouse neighborhoods, and all affected residents and
businesses will be notified in advance.

Joe's Jazz and Blues
Fest is a week-long concert series beginning on June 19th at
Powderhouse Park, and featuring entertainment by the Ben Powell
Quartet, Peter Parcek 3, the Somerville High School band and others.
The kickoff concert is free and open to all members of the public.
Additional concerts are scheduled throughout the week at various indoor
locations, including Bloc 11, Johnny D's, Sally O'Briens and Precinct.
