Dear Dad: Today is Father's day, again, and Dad I've been thinking of you Sixteen years have passed since you left, although it seems like just a few. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of you and smile We laughed at all the same dumb jokes, and man we had a pile. |
I've met a lot of funny guys, and quite a few famous ones,
but Dad, you were the king of one liners, insult jokes, and puns.
You held court everyday at the deli, you'd sit back in your chair
And for a while you were the undisputed King of Davis Square
When I quit my job as a teacher it really hurt you so
Until I landed that awesome gig on Boston radio!
You wore your Kiss 108 jacket proudly
Just like a real cool cat
Even though you dis-owned the Red Sox, and wore that Yankees hat.
Too bad you didn't stay around, long enough to see
The Patriots and the Sox win Super Bowls and World Series.
I wish that you could be here enjoying your two grand son's too
And your granddaughter is now a successful young woman,
She was lucky to have known you
You used to call me your right hand man, especially when mama got sick
But you were the one who was always there, the captain of the ship
When we were kids you were very protective, you watched us like a hawk
You always said "Tell them your Daddy said so" because no one messed with my pop!
I tell your grandsons stories, about their grandpa Fred,
I can't believe I remembered, so many funny things you said
I sob sometimes when I talk about you, because my heart will never mend
When God called you to be with mama, and Christine,
I lost my father and my best friend.
I 'm trying to do my best down here, but there's times that I lose sight
That's when I wish you were still here dad, to make everything alright.
I dream about you often, you're alive, and we're having fun
But then I wake up to reality, and I get really bummed.
One night I swear you visited me, You were in my room one night
I touched your face , and you smiled , as if to say, "Jim you're doing alright!"
I hope you celebrate Father's day, with mama, brother Joe and sister Chris
We'll be thinking about you Daddy , and please remember this.
There isn't a day that goes by, that I don't miss you terribly
Happy Father's day Dad, I love you! And I'll see you in eternity.
