Our View of the Times – September 17

powderhouse_viewAll of us want to do the right thing when it comes to taking those simple and not too time consuming measures to dispose of our disposables in the proper way.

Even the most die-hard skeptics of global warming fears, sustainability pooh-poohers, et al, are gradually coming around to understand that there’s only so much room in the global landfill. Only so much smoke can be tolerated from the handy nearby incinerator. And so on.

It kind of stands to reason that Styrofoam can pose health risks and needs to be disposed of in specific ways. Let’s face it, the stuff is just plain weird. Nothing quite like it exists in nature, as far as can be discerned. It’s a thing of chemical industry and therefore should be regarded warily and with a high degree of skepticism. If wiser heads determine there is a danger then who are we to argue? Question? Yes. But it seems as though the questions have been adequately answered.

Our coffee will taste just the same – if not better – out of a paper cup, instead of that crispy, crunchy conglomerate of chemicals we like to call Styrofoam.

You can keep the stuff. Better yet, just let it go. Life is change, and so is industry and commerce. We learn, we move on. Surrender the foam, then live to tell the tale. If you dare.
