A Pancake Breakfast fundraiser will take place this Saturday, June 28, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the First Church Somerville UCC, 98 College Avenue. This is a great opportunity for newcomers to the OPENAIR Circus to meet others in the community and learn about the program and what to expect. It’s also a great opportunity for those who have taken part in the program in the past to reconnect while eating delicious food made by one of their board members. They’ll be serving pancakes (gluten free and regular), eggs, sausage, veggie patties, coffee and O.J. Tickets at the door will be $9 teen or adult (11 years old or older); $5 child (10 years old or younger); $25 family. For a limited time tickets can be ordered at a discount rate: $7 teen or adult (11 years old or older); $3 child (10 years old or younger); $20 family. This discount rate is only good until the end of classes on June 26.

The Board of Alderman had their so called “Budget cut meeting” this past Monday night, and talk about a boring meeting. It appears all the puff and smoke about cutting and slicing never materialized, so either the mayor and his department heads did a fantastic job of explaining and accounting for every penny or plan or there were simply not enough votes to cut anything. Oh yes, they will tell you they did cut some stuff but we’re talking certain salaries on positions that were not filled or won’t be filled until a few weeks down the road. We’re disappointed, and if you’re up for a boring watch on TV channel 22 (City Cable Channel) bring some spiked coffee and kick back and relax. Nothing to see there. Even the position created for an individual ahead of time wasn’t talked about. Who knows, maybe the Board of Alderman regular meeting this Thursday night might be different when they have to vote as a whole body on the proposed budget. Let’s see, but don’t forget to bring something to keep you awake.

If you grew up there and want to reacquaint yourself with others from the same neighborhood, this is the party for you. Over 100 so far are going to attend. This will be a great event. Everyone that grew up in East Somerville will tell you, it was a special place in our city. Everyone knew everyone, no matter what corner you hung out on or park you grew up on down there. East Somerville had something special. The old-fashioned block parties that took place to the Old Broadway show. The event is free, you just have to be from East Somerville. There were sponsors that took care of the bill for the City Club and food.
