The representative for the 26th Middlesex District announced July 9 that the AFL-CIO has endorsed his bid for re-election.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO,” said State Rep. Timothy J. Toomey Jr., D-Somerville.

“The Massachusetts AFL-CIO is dedicated to electing public officials who will be strong voices in the State House for the working families of Massachusetts,” said Robert J. Haynes, president of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, which represents more than 400,000 workers and 750 local unions and intermediate bodies.

“Tim Toomey is one of those voices. It is important to all the working families in the state that he remains state representative for the 26th Middlesex District. We need him.”

Toomey said his primary goal as state representative is to make sure that his constituents receive the benefits they deserve. “It is crucial that we continue to work toward safe working conditions and livable wages for all workers,” he said.

“My strong pro-labor voting record has helped me attain this goal,
which is shared by the AFL-CIO,” he said.

“As a member of a union family, I appreciate the role that the unions play in protecting the rights of workers in my district and throughout the Commonwealth.”
