Our poet this week for Lyrical Somerville is Angie Kahn. Angie Kahn has recently moved to Somerville from Stamford, CT, where she was an Urban Planner. However, because she is the daughter of a writer, Angie spends much of her time reading and writing. She has previously been published in the Sparrowgrass Poetry Forum

My Mental Illness

The more you want me

the further out i swim

to the middle

deep

where no rope can reach,

and the stars that press in from above

have forgiven the lies i told

to get here.

And the more you want from me

the less there is to give of

my dry shelled

heart,

which beats only to

survive while quietly

breaking apart.

And the more i want from you

the more i realize you have

already

given too much;

the mouth of fortune has foretold

the ending to me

in dreams, as if the battle

was already

lost.
